PERSONALITY
Faye's caustic attitude draws from a number of hardships she faced after emerging from a 54 year long cryosleep with no family or friends, nothing to her name ( which isn't her true name ), no place to call home, and no memory to recall such things. She's introduced to this new world by way of con artists trying to take her for money she doesn’t have, saddled with millions in medical debt she can’t pay. To add salt to the wound, Faye will accumulate more debt on top of that when her lawyer-turned-love interest, a con man she mistakenly thought she could trust, fakes his death to pass all of his debt onto her. This quickly cultivates a deep well of distrust that will become a negative foothold in her relationships going forward. One order of abandonment issues coming right up! Ironically, the only person she can trust is herself who is just as much a stranger as the next person. The only difference is that she can't abandon herself—but she will expect others to abandon her.
" Survival of the fittest is the law of nature. We deceive or we are deceived, thus we flourish or perish. Nothing good ever happened to me when I trusted others. "

Faye is impulsive, opportunistic, observant, and cunning. If there’s a will, there’s a way, even if it’s the morally unethical way. This typically comes into play where $$$ is involved; her debt, which is omnipresent and exacerbated by the economic failures occurring throughout the solar system, largely influences her relationship with money. With post-Earth societies still embroiled in capitalism, Faye's hustle turns into swindling and con jobs to help pay off her debts, but her habitual gambling gets her caught up in shady business with criminals, and always leaves her desperately broke. Even when she isn’t looking for it, trouble seems to stalk close behind, and although she is steadfast in her approach ( shoot them before they shoot you ), equipped with the means to evade or escape, she consistently finds herself in tricky situations. She believes one must grab their own luck, undeterred by how often she falls short of grabbing her own.

When we think of the true definition of a femme fatale, Faye is more the half-baked version of one. She oozes all this sexuality but deep down she doesn’t truly value herself; her body is merely a weapon she utilizes, disassociated, in order to survive. To draw someone's guard down through superfluous antics before pulling her gun on them—as if she's not truly comfortable by the idea of using her body and must offset that through the fear of her gun. She's prone to unwarranted acts of violence when she's feeling particularly overwhelmed or backed into a corner, making her sometimes reckless and dangerous to be around.
" I am who I am and you are who you are. That's all there is to it. Does it really matter? Or do we just think it does? "

She feels untethered, vulnerable, and alone, and it drives her to behave obnoxiously. Times when she would purposely disappear just to see if anyone cared — did anyone even notice her absence? — only to be left disappointed and downhearted when no one came for her. She struggles to find stability in spite of longing for it, and that longing is something that runs deeper than she is willing to admit. Any affections she garners for a person will have her frightened when faced with them; vulnerability is The Big Bad that she tries to keep away. Camaraderie of any kind is not built on trust, but on vigilance, and she will dip at a moment’s notice if things seem sketchy. The same goes for work and partners—if the odds are not in her favor, she will take off and leave the other stranded, always looking out for number one.

Deep down, Faye fosters a great deal of emotional fragility and empathy towards others. She enjoys blustering on about solitude and how comrades are nothing but trouble—but it's the trauma, babes. A liar to everyone but especially to herself. All she wants is to belong but won't even grant herself the kindness of letting others in. Faye eventually comes to understand what it means to embrace companionship when she starts warming to the idea of The Bebop being "home". That Spike, Jet, Ed, and even the smelly dog are part of what makes that home a home, and she wouldn't want it any other way.
" My memory finally came back, but nothing good came of it. There was no place for me to return to; this was the only place I could go."

But the universe deals her another shit hand: this new home of hers unspools the moment Spike leaves (to presumably go off and die). Now wrecked with the feeling of abandonment, she sees herself as nothing more than the desperately lonely woman she was before who feels she must detach to get by, afraid she might perish otherwise.

APPEARANCE
A five-foot-six Singaporean beauty both bosomy and leggy, with no birthmarks or other distinguishing marks to be seen but possibly a scar and/or bruise or two. Her slender body is often dressed in the loudest outfit this side of the solar system—but that's no measure of her ability to dress to the absolute nines if the situation calls for it. Her preferred style often involves slinky qualities where her curves are accentuated to show off her great body, including her large chest. ( But don't ogle her, she hates that. ) She's almost never without her signature headband, and she's often wearing makeup. She smells of artifical cherries, traces of costly perfume that she "picked up" somewhere, whiskey, but mostly cigarettes. I imagine this voice when I write her.

ABILITIES
FIGHTING a self-taught sharp-shooter and skilled hand-to-hand combatant. she possesses the quick thinking that's needed when in a perilous situation. with a stature as small as hers, she carries an alarming amount of strength, and she's fairly keen on the idea of shoot first, ask later which makes her dangerous if she feels the least bit threatened. as flighty as she can be, she makes for a great partner in crime if there's trust involved.
PILOTING an extremely adept pilot. she can keep up in an aerial dogfight as well as using her zipcraft's artillery in creative ways to successfully get her and/or others out of a tight bind. redtail is a manual aircraft equipped with missiles and deflective rockets, as well as the means to reverse the polarity of incoming rockets, and homes a tracking device that allows her to call it to her exact location within considerable distance.
HUSTLING she swindles, she scams, she steals, and she’s pretty good at it! about a 92% success rate anyway. probably her most valuable skill because it's kept her out of dodge under such circumstances that might bog her down or could have possibly killed her by now. she's tailored most of her tricks through the art of persuasion, her amateur acting skills, and using sleight of hand that she mastered during her time working in a casino.
HISTORY
2014 - the space shuttle accident
at the age of 20, faye traveled into space with her parents on a private spacecraft. an accident occurred on the ship, killing both of faye's parents and severely injuring her. her injuries were so serious they could not be healed with conventional medicine, so she was cryogenically frozen until a cure could be found for her condition.
2022 - the astral gate incident
the first astral gate, built in orbit around earth's moon luna, is destroyed. the explosion shatters a massive portion of the moon, resulting in lunar debris moving outward, and the resulting rock showers would devastate earth's surface, killing 4.7 billion people. the remaining 1.5 billion are forced underground. none of faye's records survived.
2068 - fifty-four years later
faye was cured and revived in a clinic called cold sleep. doctor bacchus and his assistant, manley, performed the operation and informed her that she now has a debt of 300,028,000 woolongs due to the long recovery. faye suffers amnesia as a result. without the necessary means to pay the debt, she makes a run for it. she doesn't get very far when a man by the name of whitney haggis matsumoto, her supposed lawyer, stops her and brings her back to the hospital. from there on, he gently helps faye to adjust, and exposes her to the new forms of technology that have become an integral part of everyone's life. all of this sparks off feelings of romance and possibly trust. too bad the first man she might've loved dies in a fiery car crash. but what's more tragic is when she discovers later down the line, after spike and jet bring a familiar-looking bounty head on board, that whitney had never died. it was a con job all along.
2071 - the bebop
faye is captured by a man named gordon, a criminal casino owner, and forced to work for him. during an illegal business transaction, faye mistakenly hands off something to the wrong agent; the misidentified " agent " being none other than spike spiegel, a bounty hunter. following that fiasco, faye takes off and winds up crossing paths with him again—only this time with his partner, jet black. they decide to capture faye and turn in her 6 million woolong bounty. unluckily for them, she escapes shortly after—only for them to cross paths once more when she breaks down near jupiter. eventually, faye moseys her way onto the ship, adopts the bounty hunting lifestyle, and names herself as part of the crew... much to the dismay of her newly chosen partners.
